<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It has been some time since I have been able to blog about anything seeing as Google apparantly hates me and accordingly Blogger does too. I have now managed to sort out most of the technical difficulties I was experiencing on my blog and can join the world of blogging once again! Yeah! </span></div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Anyway I thought I'd start of my return to the Bloggerverse by letting you all know about a quirky new YA book releasing today (by Publishers Coleman & Stott) called on the Bright Side by S R Johannes. Here is the cover (which I kinda love) and a description of the book which I received from the author. I will shortly be posting a review of the book, but as you can see from the book description the story promises to be fun, quirky and an all around pleasant teen read!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Carving Angels is definitely not the genre of book that I normally read and considering the target group for which it was written probably also not age appropriate. I had received a copy for review from the author and was a bit hesitant about whether I would like it at all. What I found between the pages of this book however is definitely a story which I adored and which I believe should have an honorary space on any shelf between all the best classical Christmas stories. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SUMMARY</strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This beautiful story follows Papa Adam, a retired elf whom was part of the community of Elves who make toys for children which are distributed by Santa. Papa Adam has gone blind and has lost his will to live and is thoroughly depressed and hopeless. When his five year old granddaughter Amy one day brings him a piece of wood and challenges him to carve with his heart and not with his eyes, he finds new hope and purpose in his life and together Amy and Papa Adam saves, what would surely have been, a disastrous Christmas. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book has a beautiful ethereal quality to it and contains a few lessons that young and old can benefit from. As a childrens book it reads easily and it has a quality to it which I can only describe as magical. It draws you in, regardless of your age and engages you on a level which we as adults have probably forgotten. The story is whimsical and timeless and has every element which a great Christmas story must have! The relationship and dialogue between Amy and her grandfather is witty and precious. I had felt a deep yearning for my own grandfather and the things that we used to do together after reading the story of Amy and her Papa Adam. It definitely made me greatful for those times and even the nostalgia did not detract from my enjoyment of this book, but only added to it in its own way. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book is a winning recipe! I can definitely see parents around the world reading Carving Angels to their young ones during the festive season and it becoming a priceless possession of many young dreamers out there. I absolutely loved this story. It is an must have for your collection. I am definitely buying this for my young nieces as gifts for Christmas and will keep one to read to my daughter one day. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE</strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I could not think of one thing I didn't like about this book after having finished it and will not dare critisize it anyway. Once again I loved it! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SO WHAT'S THE VERDICT</strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't believe I have to say anything more about this book. The content speaks for itself! I loved reading it, regardless of my age and regardless of my normal genre preferences. A beautifully enchanting tale! </div>

This year is fast heading downhill isn't it! I have read nearly as much as I wanted, but I still read some really good reads this year. The Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini is just one of them. Dreamless the next installment in the series and is my pick for the a weekly meme hosted by the <a href="http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/" style="text-align: justify;">Breaking the Spine</a>. The fact that the cover is absolutely beautiful and ethereal is definitely a plus and should draw the interest of any avid reader.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Caster Chronicles is one of those series that I did not expect to like. When I read the summary it seemed to be just another magic story which would be predictable. But without any doubt this series is one of my favourite this year! This third installment was bi exception and I enjoyed it tremendously from the first page to the last.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SUMMARY</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book follows the seemingly tragic events of Beautiful Darkness. The Caster world is recovering from Lena's claiming during which she essentially became half Dark Caster and half Light. Link is settling in quite nicely with his new nature as a Incubus and Ethan is trying to keep his family and friends together whilst Apocalyptic occurrences in town are ripping them apart. Throughout the book human and Casters alike are searching for a way to restore the order of things and waiting for Abraham and Sarafine to expose their next evil plot to destroy the Casters and possibly humans as well. Ethan is having disturbing dreams which seem to follow the tune of the newest shadowing song that he is now being haunted by. Whilst Macon and Olivia try and search out John Breed and the significance that he may or may not have in restoring the order of things, a new player comes on the scene in the form of Lilith, the Demon Queen and seemingly also the wheel of fate. From what she tells Ethan we learn that a significant sacrifice can restore the order of things, and that sacrifice will have to be made by a specific person. Whilst the crew originally think that that person is John Breed... there are quite a few surprises that await the reader. Ridley surprises everyone with her desperate need to return to a life of magic and she even falls in with some very unexpected people to maintain a measure of power. Ultimately Lena and Ethan have to face a future which may see them apart forever. The Wheel of Fate is crueler than you could ever have thought...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>WHAT I LIKED</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I loved the interesting and unexpected ways in which the writers continue to make the Caster stories so interesting. In this book one at last become more acquainted with Sarafine and the story of how she happened to go dark. Ethan's relationships with other characters but Lena are also expanded on significantly which is an aspect of this book which I particularly liked as so many young adult novels tend to focus only on the love birds! The relationship between Lena and John which I expected to turn into a love triangle confounded me again and I liked the fact that he was kept as a character and good one at that. Only time will tell if he remains that way. Several plot lines are revealed that once again focus on the secondary characters and the possible futures which they may have after finalization of the series.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ethan's introspection and inner monologues at times became a bit tedious for me. I did not expect to lose Amma as one of my favourite characters so soon and I did not like the fact that there was very little about her in this book, in comparison to the last two. I really hope that she will redeem herself in future books. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SO WHAT'S THE VERDICT</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I absolutely loved Beautiful Chaos and it will have an honorary place on my re-read shelf once the series has been completed. If you have not started reading this series yet, get up and grab a copy immediately!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>WHAT'S NEXT</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The name of the next book in the Beautiful Creatures series has as far as I know not yet been revealed but watch this space for more news on it in the near future. Happy reading everyone!

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In honour of the release of Cinder and Ella I am reposting my review that I did for the Cinder and Ella blog tour! If you have not yet picked up a copy of this book, be sure to do so!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We are all more or less familiar with the age old story of Cinderella and her wicked stepsisters. As little girls the Cinderella story was the basis for all our dreams of the future and I will admit that even now I swoon for any story where a poor helpless girl meets a prince on a white horse who sweeps her off her feet (whether literally or hypothetically).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I for one have always been an avid fan of such stories and despite the cynical way with which most people view love and love stories these days, I for one am just a hopeless romantic. It would even seem that I am not the only one if one has regard to the success of the Mill & Boon and Harlequin Modern Series which I must say repeats the age old story of Cinderella over and over again. If one has regard to the literature on the subject it would seem that there is even a psychological syndrome? It even seems that the story of Cinderella found its roots in Roman times, long before the Brothers Grimm and Walt Disney turned it into the stuff of little girls’ fantasies. For those interested you can read all about the history behind the story of Cinderella at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinderella." rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinderella.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That being said when I picked up the story of Cinder & Ella I was expecting more of the same fairytale fluff. I was therefore presently surprised when I found not another stereotypical interpretation of the age old story, but a fresh and interesting new take on an old favourite. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SUMMARY</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In keeping with my usual style for reviews that I have reviewed pre-release, I did not summarize the story but gave only the Goodreads blurp which reads as follows:<br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>After their father’s disappearance, Cinder leaves home for a servant job at the castle. But it isn’t long before her sister Ella is brought to the castle herself—the most dangerous place in all the kingdom for both her and Cinder. I will however go a little further and say that Cinder and Ella is a Cinderella story like no other and one you'll never forget. Cinder and Ella are (unexpectedly) two individuals who live with their mother and two sisters. Whilst their family had been a happy one before, this all changed when the Prince of their fair land visited their house one day and seemingly poisoned the minds of their parents in such a way as to change them forever. Soon after their father goes missing and their mother, seemingly torn with grief and still influenced by the Prince’s “poison” does nothing more than spin and weave. As a result their family soon becomes stunningly disfunctional, with their little sister entirely dependant on the caretaking of the rest of the family and their other sister vain and impossibly indulgent. Both Cinder and Ella however seem destined for more and they soon break the mould of what is expected of them, to face several daring and even scary adventures.</i></blockquote>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I do not frequently read (or like) retellings I did not expect to enjoy Cinder & Ella as much as I did. The story is dark and compelling and extremely interesting. Ms Lemon used really only the basic underlying pieces of the classic Cinderella story to weave a fairy tale that keeps you interested and guessing at every page. I really enjoyed the fact that the story, despite being slightly mediocre and dark, draws you into the world Cinder and Ella whilst the Prince clearly has their world in his grip. Ms Lemon is great at setting the scene and atmosphere of this world in describing the events in a slightly negative and dark way. In contrast the light points in Ella’s adventure, like meeting her Knight, are described in a light and cheerful fashion. I believe it takes great courage for an author to set a book in a bleak setting and I believe Ms Lemon’s risk has been wildly succesful. It is clear that the book has been written with much emotion and thought and this mysterious and sinister aspect just made me enjoy the book so much more. Although I might be reading more into it than what was actually intended, the King’s interaction for me translates to and can be likened to the roll of God in religion. Whilst being aware of and watching the strife in his Kingdom he allows his subjects to make their own choices and face their own challenges and only interferes once it seems that through outside influence they are not allowed to succeed. This is essentially the pro’s and con’s of having free choice, as I see it. This theme resonated with me, whether or not it was intentional. In addition there were a few interesting lessons which could be learned from the story of Cinder and Ella and believe many readers will relate to the underlying themes in this book! It was a story that I found pleasantly unexpected and thoroughly enjoyed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Whilst I appreciate much of the writing style may have been scene setting, as I have discussed herein above, some of the writing in the story seemed a bit incoherent. Although this did not detract from my enjoyment of the book it was apparant to me throughout the story as I came to certain portions of the book and felt that I had missed something that went before. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SO WHAT’S THE VERDICT</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I must say that I think as a retelling of an age old story, this book was a resounding success. I enjoyed the fact that the story was not simply a different retelling or a remake but used the bare necessaties of the story to tell a wholly unique and fresh tale. Two very definite two thumbs up from me! I hope that all of you will soon be picking up a copy of this book, which I believe can already be pre-ordered from Amazon.com.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As with all of the books of the Royal House of Shadows series I could not wait to pick up the last instalment. Of course Micah’s book also includes the ending to a story which has been developed not only through 4 books but through 4 writers, and was written by the writer of one of my favourite fiction worlds, the Psy-Changeling series. It was therefore no surprise to me that I utterly enjoyed Micah’s story.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SUMMARY</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once upon a time the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs and time is running out. As the dark Lord who condemns souls to damnation in the Abyss, Micah is nothing but a feared monster wrapped in impenetrable black armor. He has no idea he is the last heir of Elden, its last hope. Only one woman knows the daughter of his enemy. Liliana is nothing like her father, the Blood Sorcerer who’d cursed Micah. She sees past Micah’s armor to the prince inside. A prince whose sinful touch she craves. But first she has to brave his dark, dangerous lair and help him remember. Because they only have till midnight to save Elden.

<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong></div>
</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was frankly a bit apprehensive to read Micah’s book as he was throughout the other books described as the baby of the family and I was loath to read a book that did not include the strong and wilful male (and one female) characters that the previous books showcased. Micah as a character however did not disappoint at all and when one eventually meets him he is anything but a weak, adolescent character. Furthermore this book, written in the flowing and effortless style of Nalini Singh, was a joy to read. The dark picture of Micah’s castle (and Micah himself) thoroughly engages the reader. One feels the darkness and depression and loneliness of the first couple of pages and then rejoices when the story elevates to the unexpected when Micah’s true nature becomes apparent and one gets to know the people who share his world. The love story was simple and realistic and whilst the focus of the book did not completely overpower it. I found the book to be an easy and enjoyable read, but with the depth required to truly be a good book.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the build up through the four book series I expected the show-off between the Blood Sorcerer and the children of Elden to be a bit more… well just more. The only other aspect of the book which I found less than compelling was the fact that Micah, like the male leads in the other books in the series, seemed at times only able to talk in one word sentences. Be that as it may, Nalini Singh places this in context of the fact that he really had no proper upbringing and therefore I suppose this aspect of the character can be excused in this book.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SO WHAT’S THE VERDICT?</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although I am sad to finish the series, I though the book was a great addition to the Royal House of Shadows series and overall a satisfying end to the series. It once again cemented Nalini Singh’s positioning as one of my favourite writers of fictitious romance stories.

****** THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS******<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I eagerly anticipated the release of this book. I dreamed up so many endings that I just had to know how this series ended. From all of these endings that I imagined not one of them came even close to how this series, which I really enjoyed, ended.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong> SUMMARY </strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The book starts with Dru, Ash and Graves still fleeing from the vampires after the warehouse where the last book ended. Dru has decided that the Order cannot be trusted and that she can no longer place her safety in their hands. They flee to her grandmother’s house where she believes they will be safe for some time. During the interlude of peace they experience Graves confesses his love for Dru but she is not able (yet) to tell him that she loves him too. Soon the vampires (and Christophe) find them and it is a desperate race for them to escape. They eventually learn that the Maharaj have joined forces with the vampires to capture Dru and this makes their situation even more dire. Some tense moments pass between Dru, Christophe and Graves and it is clear throughout the book that she is more confused than ever. They soon learn that Graves has been broken by Sergej and the whole thing goes to hell in a handbasket when they are all captured by the vampire king. In a climactic ending Dru and Christophe manage to kill Sergej and almost all of his immediate hangers on. Dru almost dies but Christophe saves her (again). Afterward the Order seem to come to some sort of an arrangement with the Maharaj who now believes that Dru has some of their blood in her veins. Graves leaves to sort himself out but promises to come back after he has done so and Dru eventually is able to tell him that she loves him. She seems to take control of her position within the Order and tells Christophe that she is not ready for any sort of meaningful relationship between them. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As with the other books this book was very fast paced and was packed full of action from the front page to the last. I once again enjoyed the descriptive style in which Ms St Crow writes… not too much and not too little. One could clearly follow and accept the growth in the characters and the majority of the questions that had previously gone unanswered were answered in this “final” instalment. There is a lot of intensity in the characters which I enjoyed although Dru’s introspection did become irritating at times. Despite her former kick-ass attitude Dru was much more uncertain and vulnerable in this book and it was actually okay and made her seem more feminine and more mature to me. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book seemed to me at most times to be written from Dru’s mind. Her constant thinking, over-thinking and re-thinking each and every event, action and emotion got on my nerves a bit. As always the love triangle dilemma got much worse in this last book and it definitely irritated me no less as a result thereof. The ending was wholly unexpected and to be frank – disappointing. I did not enjoy it at all and it made the book feel like the intro to a further (or another) series. Whilst it seems that Dru decided to be alone and that she did not pick between either Christophe or Graves, I do believe that she did pick Graves in the end, although he left (for the time being). This confused and upset me, not only because Christophe was my clear favourite, but because the hints in the prior books, in my view, hinted towards some permanent engagement between Christophe and Dru. Therefore this ending just merely did not gel for me with the rest of the story. There are several more plot lines which I feel were opened in the last two chapters and although I do appreciate that this might be leading to a spin-off series, I do want my final books in a series to bring some sort of finality, which this book simply did not.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<strong>SO WHAT’S THE VERDICT</strong></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<br /><div style="text-align: justify;">
Although my criticisms on the book certainly far outweigh my compliments, I did enjoy the Reckoning. I was however left wanting after turning the last page and not in that bitter sweet kind of way I normally feel when I finish the last book in a series I love, but in a “She’s not really ending this book this way, is she?” kind of way. I don’t really know how to explain it but The Reckoning’s ending (as opposed to the rest of the book) simply did not do it for me.</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT’S NEXT</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am utterly convinced that there will be a spin-off series to Strange Angels but I do not yet have any information on such a series. We shall just have to wait and see. I for one would certainly want to know that Christophe finds a happy ending and from the way I am feeling now, I do NOT want it to be with Dru. Check back for more info as it becomes available.</div>

I haven't participated in WoW for a while but I always enjoy peeking at the great books that everyone else are waiting for. Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by the <a href="http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/">Breaking the Spine</a> which is not only a great way to network but an awesomely fun way to see what to look forward to and why! Here is my Wow pick this week!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoXTZyQQtNt7971XJGHLB47IdDohRAX-E-JZOtGBhl58D5ZdEWeQODFjv_zDO1qnSVILIauHRunCbajV5wdX0Ci6uNw83Us8bAdIzYPo_TsAJ8TWhPcJx3M6Zbh7HLF9BmQPADMooLZTgy/s1600/bloodrose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoXTZyQQtNt7971XJGHLB47IdDohRAX-E-JZOtGBhl58D5ZdEWeQODFjv_zDO1qnSVILIauHRunCbajV5wdX0Ci6uNw83Us8bAdIzYPo_TsAJ8TWhPcJx3M6Zbh7HLF9BmQPADMooLZTgy/s320/bloodrose.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I read many books this year that I really enjoyed, but as always the series remain my favourite. One series that I started to read this year is the Nightshade series, which beautiful covers first attracted me to start reading. I quickly fell in love with the first book and eagerly awaited the release of Wolfsbane. Despite the fast storyline and action, twists and turns, I found myself expecting a bit more than the second book delivered. Despite that, I still can not wait to know what happens next and whom Calla will choose in the end! The anticipation of reading Bloodrose is absolutely killing me and therefore it is without a doubt my Waiting on Wednesday pick this week. Here is the Goodreads blurp:</div>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
The Ultimate Sacrifice.
Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there’s more at stake than fighting. There’s saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay’s wrath. There’s keeping Ansel safe, even if he’s been branded a traitor. There’s proving herself as the pack’s alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers’ magic once and for all. And then there’s deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.
In the final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Andrea Cremer creates a novel with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until its final pages. A dynamic end to this breathtaking trilogy.</blockquote>
<br />
What are you waiting on this week??Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05952196883123611445noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4001488694495141386.post-12110706268223068262011-11-01T20:19:00.002+02:002011-11-01T20:19:30.392+02:00Top Ten Tuesday - 01 November<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wow! The year has absolutely flown. I'm still trying to try and manage my overflowing to read list and I have not even completed all the challenges which I took on at the beginning of the year. But this week on <a href="http://brokeandbookish.blogspot.com/">The Broke and the Bookish</a> they are doing a bit of reminiscing for Top Ten Tuesday. This week's topic is actually one of my favourite because I believe a really successful book is one that engages the reader emotionally. You may ultimately like it or you may absolutely hate it, but if it engages your emotions, you will never really forget it. There are not many books that have had this effect on me, but I will try and list those memorable ones that I have been unable to forget:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here is my Broke and the Bookish Top Ten Tuesday this week: My books that I have had strong emotions over (in no particular order):</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. Twilight series:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Say what you will about these 4 books but I was absolutely engrossed when I read the story for the first time and even loved it the second time around. I have heard a lot of criticism on the writing and errors in the plot and so on, but honestly I did not dissect the books in that way when I read it. I felt every part of the emotion of the characters and I went through a whole range of emotions of my own. Bella irritated me, my heart bled for Jacob, Bella's dad made me laugh at his dry humour and Edward sometimes made me cry.... Overall very emotional reads, but reads that I unashamedly enjoyed. One of the wonderful ladies from my bookclub mentioned another aspect of Twilight to me this weekend, which I realized is absolutely true. The Twilight series revived my passion for reading and got me into reading almost 3 books a week, whereas I had for some time before that only bothered to pick up a mystery or romance novel a month. Accordingly I will remain a big fan of this series.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>5. The Percy Jackson Series / Kane Chronicles series:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is something about Rick Riordan's characters which I just love so much, that I simply cannot get enough. Percy's dry humour is shared by the Kane siblings and there were many an instance whilst reading these series that I found myself laughing out loud. I just love the interaction between the characters in these books and whilst the majority of these books made me feel lighthearted and full of humour, there were some very sad parts as well through which I shed a tear or two. But overall books that evoke a lot of positive emotions from me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>7. Master of the Game - Sidney Sheldon:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have read this book many many times through my years of reading and every single time feels like the first time. I experience all over again all the emotions of the first time I read it, which includes the entire spectrum of emotions. Love, hate, fear, excitement, trepidation... the list goes on. One thing is certain this book has been absolutely unforgettable, precisely as it evokes such strong emotions from the reader. It is one of those epic stories (like Circles in the Forest) which almost feel as if it has changed your outlook on life or your has made a significant difference in your life in general.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>8. Psy-Changeling Series:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are many many more books that I have been very emotional over, whether it was sadness, irritation, humour or whatever, but this series still sticks out for me. I am always anxious to continue reading the story, always afraid that my favourite characters will get hurt or not find love, always happy and elated when they do and always excited as the back story unfolds. If that is not an emotional roller-coaster then I do not know what is. Hehe!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well those are my picks... If I had to list all of them, I would not be able to stop at 50. Some books just simply touch you in a profound way. I certainly look forward to reading all about your picks! Happy reading everyone! The year is almost almost done!</div>

This is the first time in absolute ages that I have been able to share the book blog love and get to follow some exciting new blogs! Truthfully I am quite excited! There have been so many things that have happened in the last couple of months that I am still trying to take stock of everything and spending some real time on my blog (with it's pretty new revamp) which I have really not even put out there or showcased. As the year winds down I hope to still finish at least two of the challenges which I started and to begin reading at least 10 of the books that have been gathering dust on my To-Read pile for months. Reading and book buying still remain my biggest vices and I absolutely love it! Hope all of you are profusely planning your Christmas book list as I am! Happy weekend everyone! I hope you all have a great one! </div>

Follow Friday is a fun weekly meme hosted now by the fabulous Parajunkee over at <a href="http://www.parajunkee.com/">Parajunkee's View</a> and <a href="http://www.alisoncanread.com/">Alison Can Read</a>. This is a brilliant way to get to know your fellow bloggers and I love doing the Friday follow to see what new reads others have discovered which I am not yet aware of. This week's question is quite interesting and it was a toss up for me between some of the awesome woman's characters for a great girls night or one of the gorgeous and dreamy heroes for a romantic dinner. In the end I decided that there are just too many dreamy male characters for just one dinner with one of them, so I have chosen my favourite female characters for a fabulous girl's night! So here goes:</div>
<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?</div>
</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I have said, this was a difficult decision and I'm probably cheating a bit, but I would love to have dinner and cocktails with Merit (from Chicagoland Vampires), Cat (from Night Huntress) and Dorina (from Midnight's Daughter) whom are my favourite female book characters. Seeing as they all have a dry sarcastic manner I'm sure I'll have a great time cause I am for the most part not much different. As these ladies are all vampires (or half vampires) I guess we will mostly be drinking Bloody Mary's! Haha!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hi everyone! I am at last back from my trip and have been insanely busy catching up work which accumulated during my absence. I hope you all will forgive my absence and the absolute posting hole on my blog! I hope to be providing you with many more thoughtful reviews soon. Here is the first of those, my review of: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>THE IRON KNIGHT</b></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
by <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2995873.Julie_Kagawa">Julie Kagawa</a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9659607-the-iron-knight" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; padding-right: 20px; text-align: justify;"><img alt="The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4)" border="0" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51R8oESRUYL._SX106_.jpg" /></a>I could not wait to pick up Iron Knight - the last book in the Iron Fey series. This series was unexpectedly a quick favourite of mine and I had devoured the first three installments. As with many young adult books, the series of course included... (drum roll)... a love triangle. But there was never any question for me between Ash and Puck as Ash just simply stole my heart. Therefore Iron Knight was the ultimate read in my mind... a whole book focused only on Ash. No doubt I enjoyed it tremendously and I write this review with slight trepidation, as this is the last book in a series which I absolutely adored.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>THE STORY
</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As with all pre-release reviews, I include here only the blurp from Goodreads, which I admit, does not say much. Regardless I would not want to spoil the story for anyone, and for the time being therefore (until you've read the book) that is all that I will give: <em> My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn'darkmyr Tallyn.I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her. My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl… </em>

<b>WHAT I LIKED<br />
</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As opposed the first three installments of the series, this book centered only on Ash, and his journey towards obtaining a means to be permanently part of Meghan's life. He was of course prevented from doing so as he could not, for any length of time, reside in the Iron Kingdom, which was now Meghan's court and the place where she resides. For the most of the book, Ash is hopeful but cynical as to whether he will reach his goal, but he is very determined. I liked this new darker almost morbid side of the book. Of course Puck was always present to lighten the mood and generally irritate Ash. For the most part they have resolved their differences and whether they like it or not it is clear from the story, that they remain the very best and trusted of friends to one another. There is still some action and there is some unexpected sadness, all of which I enjoyed. One gets a deeper understanding of the love that Ash feels for Meghan and of course the man whom Ash really is. At times the book made me feel slightly depressed and whilst I did feel slightly negative about this during my reading of the story, in hindsight I liked that fact too. Any book that evokes strong emotion from the reader, in my view, should be wildly successful.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Overall I kind of miss Meghan and without the interaction between Ash and Meghan one did not get that wistful feeling that the relationship between them makes you feel. At times the book made me feel slightly depressed, which could be regarded as negative. I have however included a comment on that above. Writing this review now I suppose some readers might find the book too dark and I believe this aspect will detract from their enjoyment of the book. Ash at times struggles to find his resolve and I must admit that uncertainty was strange for me considering Ash is normally so determined. I did not like this new vulnerability as it did seem to drag him down on occasion.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SO WHAT'S THE VERDICT
</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really enjoyed this book, regardless of the slightly darker edge to it. I will probably be mourning the end of the series for some weeks to come, but ultimately that's the left over feelings I experience from any series of good books. This series remains one of my favourites to date and will certainly make time to reread them in future. Be sure to pick up a copy of Ash'es book as soon as you are able to do so!
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>WHAT'S NEXT
</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Unfortunately I am given to understand that this is the last installment to the Iron Fey series. I am sure a brilliant writer like Julie Kagawa will however come up with something fresh and new for us to read soon. So happy reading everyone.

Thank you again to Harlequin through Netgalley for providing this book to me for early review!

So we made it safely through the first day to have a very long and very fun second day around Rome. We walked to every historical site, from the Basilica to the Pantheon and I could not believe the size of the places which were built so many many years ago. It is almost impossible to comprehend how these structures were created with only the most basic technology and science available to the Roman Empire. It is to say the least... breath-taking! Here are some of the pictures:</div>

So it was time at last to depart for our long awaited (and long planned) trip! Over the next couple of days I will unfortunately not be blogging about books, but I will be sharing my experiences from our trip through Italy! I must say the driving on the opposite side of the road thing scares me half to pieces, but we'll know on Wednesday how that turns out. Here are a couple of photos from our time travelling:</div>

This week is the last week before our departure for our trip to Italy from 24 September 2011. We had a pre-departure lunch for some of our friends at one of our favourite restaurants, Isabella's in Brooklyn, Pretoria. Following on from this post I will be posting photographs of my trip as we prepare to leave and obviously photos from our trip. Although I have been to Eurpore this will be my first trip to Italy and I am very excited. If anyone of you have been to Italy I would love to hear your thoughts on your trip.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The rest of this year sees the release of a bunch of books which I have been eagerly awaiting for some time. As my primarily reading love is series, all of the books mentioned in this post is "next" books in series that I have been following. Sometimes reading series is such torture if all of the instalments in that series have not been released when you start reading, but I suppose awaiting "next" books makes sure that you always have something to look forward to and of course gives all your friends and family several gift options for birthdays and Christmas. I would love to hear how many of my followers enjoy reading series. If there is interest I plan to arrange many more series featured events in future, including giveaways and the like and I would love to focus my blog on such series. I don't believe I have come across a blog with that focus. Please take the time to leave me a comment and tell me what you think! Have a great week everyone! Here are some of the books that I am waiting for at this time:</div>

<br />
<blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Starting to write this review I am wondering what more can I say about Cat and Bones and the Night Huntress world that I have not already gushed about in any of my previous review of Jeaniene Frosts' simply brilliant Night Huntress series. So reading this review expect some more gushing and take it from me... you can believe each and every word of praise which holds absolutely true.
</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>BACKGROUND</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />For once it seems that Cat and Bones can spend some much deserved time alone enjoying a portion of their immortal lives without imminent threats of danger which always seem to surround them. Their lives have regained a measure of normality and they have settled as much as an pair as unique as them can. Of course such peace does not last long in the Night Huntress world and soon the pair are confronted with a very interesting request for assistance from a new ghostly character. Elizabeth has for her entire supernatural life been hunting her murderer, a crazed ghost heretic with some sick and twisted killing habits. Of course Cat's compulsion to save and assist anyone in a vulnerable or weak state makes her take up the seemingly impossible task of seeking out and killing this ghost, before he kills again on Halloween. The question is however, how does one kill a ghost?
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />At the same time control of Cat's previous team at the government controlled paranormal investigation and control agency has been usurped by a nasty little ass with a hunger for power and a hidden agenda. Cat's ghostly uncle Don is left to discover Jason Madigan's plan whilst the makes Cat and Bones' life very difficult at every turn.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />Tracking and killing (or trapping) the murderous ghost proves to more difficult than the pair ever anticipated and there are quite a few moments where their lives hang in the balance. Some of my favourite old characters, Spade, Denise and Ian quickly join the quest to kill Kramer (that's the ghost), which makes for many a laughing and cringing moment. A new friend is introduced in the form of the gay medium Tyler who instantly becomes part of the mishap team of vampires, pets and a demon.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />The team ultimately succeed in trapping Kramer but not without some fierce battles, life threatening moments and an almost sexual assualt.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />It would probably be easier to list my disliked because I simply adored, as always, every part of Jeaniene Frost's new creation. Cat is as sarcastic and witty as always and Bones is just...sigh... indescribably devine. I loved the fact that throughout the book the comments and characters frequently found me laughing out loud. Whilst Cat and Bones seem slightly more serious to me in this book, I believe this can be contributed to the fact that their foe in this round is not so easy to figure out or overcome, but the dry humour and endless wit is ever-present throughout the story. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I liked the fact that this time around the plot was not focused on Cat and Bones' own enemies, but an enemy which was (initially) a threat to people completely unknown to them. It shows their characters in such a great light that they would offer up their hard-gained peace and freedom to assist Elisabeth in gaining her revenge and saving so many human lives at the same time. Tyler as a new character is brilliant. He is a very believable and realistic character and has the dramatic ways that I can recognise of many of gay friends. The interaction between Cat and Madigan is also very enjoyable and Cat always like to aggravate, irritate and challenge her foes. I can continue gushing for ages but to really appreciate how good this series is, you will simply have to pick up the books and read them yourself.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />I honestly can't remember one thing that I did not like about this book, but feel free to let me know if there was anything you did not like. I would love to discuss this book at lenght with any who have read it.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>SO WHAT'S THE VERDICT
</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />I am giving this book a BLISS rating and I simply would not have given it anything else for any reason. I hope Jeaniene Frost will keep on thinking up more adventures for Cat and Bones as I for one will certainly keep on reading as long as she keeps on writing.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /><strong>SO WHAT'S NEXT?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />For the moment I am unaware of any details surrounding the next book in the series, but watch this space for more details soon. I will be counting the days until I can dive back into the Night Huntress World.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<strong>SOME OF MY FAVOURITE QUOTES:
</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

"Why last night, I took some curtain scraps and a few slivers of board pieces and made a little Kramer doll. Then I ripped its arms and legs off beore driving a nail up its ass."

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was very anxious to read the next instalment to this series and read it directly after Lord of the Vampires. I had never read anything by Jill Monroe and was excited to do so for the first time. With a few exceptions, Lord of Rage delivered on all my expectations and I enjoyed this read almost more than I had the first instalment in the series.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As this is a pre-release review the only hints I give in terms of the storyline is from the Goodreads blurp. Here goes: Once upon a time... the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs...and time is running out.... Princess Breena had been dreaming of her warrior lover when she was ripped from her Elden castle and thrown into a strange, dangerous realm. Lost and alone, she prayed for survival and vengeance for her stolen kingdom. She found both in a woodland cottage...in a dark bear of a man. The golden-haired beauty had eaten his food and slept in his bed when Osborn found her. Though he wanted to awaken his virgin princess to carnal pleasures, Breena wanted more—including his warrior skills. Skills the once-legendary mercenary had long buried. Now Osborn had a choice—risk his life or deny his princess her fairy-tale ending.

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the majority of the underlying storyline had been revealed in Lord of the Vampires, this book focuses to a great extent on the characters of Breena and Osbourne, their lives and their development. Osbourne as a character is certainly a favourite of mine, and I love the story of his people and how they become Beserkers. This is a very interesting aspect of this book and could have fit just as comfortably in the ancient tales of many tribes and cultures who exist even today. These touching points with reality made this book real to me and I enjoyed it so much more for it. Quite a few aspects of the fall of Elden is also explored in this book, as Breena comes into her own as a magic user and true princess of Elden. Whilst I must admit that Breena is not an appealing character to me, her growth of a character is succesful in this book.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Once again, as in my review of Lord of the Vampires, the compulsion of Breena and Osbourne to come together, or at least the "MINE" demand which is a part of their psyche from the get go, is very familiar to me through my reading of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. As I jealously guard everything about that series, I was slightly affronted when this came up again in this series. Be that as it may, it did not detract from my ultimate enjoyment of the book. As I have already explained above, Breena was not a favourite character of mine and I found her quite weak and uninteresting for a large part of the story. She does seem to come into her own eventually though. Once again I expected a bit more steam from a Harlequin Nocturna, but I also appreciate that the entire book is not only heat but also includes an interesting story.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT'S THE VERDICT</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
I really did enjoy this book, almost more than the first. The story was again new and compelling, even with the underlying storyline being ever present. I can guarantee that I will continue to follow the series and in fact have already hungrily read the next instalment.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT'S NEXT?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Lord of the Wolfyn is the next instalment to this series, which will be released by 25 October 2011. You all will have to wait a little longer for my pre-release review on that book, but I could say even at this stage, that it is my favourite of the series so far!

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<blockquote>
Lord of the Vampires is the first of what I understand to be a four book series, each book written by one of the stars of the paranormal romance/erotic fantasy genre. After reading Lord of the Vampires, I could not wait to read the rest and was lucky enough to be able to read them in short succession of one another.</blockquote>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lord of the Vampires follows Nicolai, a blood drinking prince from the kingdom of Elden. Nicolai leads a next to perfect life, the only dark mark of which is the fact that his parents want him to choose a wife, and soon. Whilst rebelling against this wish in an elaborate fashion (sleeping with every chambermaid in the castle it seems) Nicolai is suddenly ripped out of his own reality and in an ironic twist of fate finds himself to be a sex slave to some very wicked (and it seems ugly) princess sisters in a neighbouring kingdom. He cannot remember who he is (to a certain extent), where he belongs and/or how he has come to be a sex slave. He does however know that he has a destiny to follow, the knowledge of which is ever present within him.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Through the practice of some interesting magic, Nicolai manages to draw Jane Parker into his dreams. Jane is from the human realm and knows nothing about the kingdom realm of which she will soon be a part. What she believes to be very erotic dreams with a fantasy lover soon out to be very real when she is drawn into the kingdom realm through Nicolai's magic. To assist him with his plot to escape his enslavement, Nicolai has ensured that Jane looks to the inhabitants of the kingdom realm exactly like one of his captors and a very cruel and wicked princess. Nicolai is however able to see her true form and nature and quickly enlists her aid to free him from captivity. They are however initially unable to escape some cruel curses that the princesses have placed on Nicolai and meet some interesting foes in their attempt to return to Elden, where Nicolai believes he must go.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As time progresses Nicolai regains more and more of his memories, in particular memories of how his parents were slain by a sorceror who uses the power of blood to fuel his magic and how his parents had, with their last breath cast duel spells. One to cast their children away from Elden (to safety) and one to ingrain in them an undying need for revenge. Nicolai also quickly realises that he does not only need Jane as a means to escape and/or to obtain blood, but that he loves her and needs her to be part of his life, forever.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ultimately Nicolai and Jane triumph over their enemies, not without much adversity, and are able to start their journey back to the kingdom of Elden and the revenge which Nicolai will hopefully gain there. It's either that...or die trying.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I LIKED</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<blockquote>
<br />
I though the storyline of this first instalment to the Royal House of Shadows was an interesting and fresh one, which is not easy in todays day and age where the market is flooded with supernatural stories of vampires and the like. The idea of a powerful prince who needs nothing in his life becoming so vulnerable as to request the assistance of a mere human woman (who has faced and overcome her own trials) appeals to my more feminist side. By the same token however I love that Jane falls helplessly in love with such a strong and powerful male character as ultimately us females love to be nurtured and protected by such domineering males. Both characters (with certain exceptions) were well developed and had rich backgrounds which could be explored as one grew to know each of them in turn. The mileu of the series is described in such a way as to allow the reader to picture the kingdom and its unique creatures and features in his/her mind's eye.
</blockquote>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE</strong>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
I did not like the fact that Nicolai turned a little neanderthal every now and then, using single word sentences when he became enraged and/or turned on. The whole "MINE" concept resonating within the lead characters from the moment they meet has been done and I really felt at some point that I was reading an instalment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward instead of a fresh new series. Whilst the steamy scenes were well written, they were few and far in between.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT'S THE VERDICT
</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
I really did enjoy the first instalment to this series which compelled me to keep on reading the first three instalments in one sitting. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who loves the genre, or even those who are attempting it for the first time!

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>WHAT'S NEXT
</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The next instalment in the Royal House of Shadows Series is Lord of Rage, written by Jill Monroe and due for release on 20 September 2011. You can read my pre-release review on that later this week.

I hope you all enjoyed Blue Moon and will be starting Shadowland with us on Monday. I must say Blue Moon was one of the slower reads for me of the entire series, but I'm not saying any more this week. This week the review is a Guest Review, by my good friend Lu! For those of you who know Lu already, you know that she is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to books and is an avid reader. She always has an insight of where to get the best book deals and where to find the good reads. If you want to read more about Lu, you can do so on her blogs or (as I did) find her on Goodreads! Thanks for doing the review this week Lu! Next week we are reading Shadowland, the third instalment to the Immortals series. Be sure to stop by and let me know what you thought about Blue Moon in the meantime! Happy reading everyone!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>HERE IS A BIT ABOUT LU:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Hi I'm Lu from A Muggl'es Magical Book Blog and I started blogging a little more than a year ago. I also started my Archeology blog around this time <a href="http://thearchaeologistandthetrowel.blogspot.com/">http://thearchaeologistandthetrowel.blogspot.com/</a>. As you can imagine I love reading, but I do it mostly in the bath! I try and read about an hour in the bath per night :) </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><blockquote>Sonette: This has been a contentious issue in our Goodreads group for some time, as Lu is a great supporter of reading in the bath, whilst some others are absolutely horrified by thinking of water splashing on a book or a Kindle or something! Do you read in the bath?</blockquote><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I read almost everything as long as there is a good plot! Young Adult and Paranormal are my favorites with a bit of Mystery thrown in. I also started a bookclub a few years ago and we have 380+ members!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'm still waiting for my Hogwarts letter to arrive, as I'm sure its lost in the post.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>REVIEW:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong><br />
</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Rating 8/10 - 4 stars</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Firstly let me tell you why I will definitely continue this series:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Its not predictable, the Author takes you places you never thought it would go. Also you know when you say "please please let this happen in the book!" and it never does? Well here it does! For this seemingly simple reason I know that I will love every single book in this series.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Roman is a new character that's introduced and he left me thrashing between "is he good?" "or not?" the whole time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ever's school life gets more interesting as she becomes even more of a outcast, but you will have to read why. And may I just add, someone please slap Stacia!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I was left with sooo many questions and I can't wait to read the next novel to find out all the answers! I have also learned this one lesson: Do not trust anyone...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you are looking for suspense and mystery with some young adult and paranormal romance thrown in, then this is your book! Get ready to want to strangle Ever a few times though or maybe even scream at some of the characters.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Spoilers:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Oh how I loved it when Ever "went back". I really wanted it to happen and I'm so glad it did! It reminded me a bit of the butterfly effect!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ava? what happened? Did you really do what Roman said? I think there is more to this story!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I must admit Romans speech in the end did take some of the fun out of the book. I just wanted him to say what his deal was and get it over with! But it was the classic "villain speech".</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Also did Riley really send the twins? What's their deal? </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I think Ever was incredibly stupid to trust Roman in the end, and she deserves the whole "you can't touch each other" thing!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Fav Quotes:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">"The fact is, the heart and mind aren't always friendly. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">And in my case, they're barely speaking."</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">"If you insist on the chase," I say, my voice much surer than I feel."Then you better start training. 'Cause, dude you're in for a marathon." </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">My rating: <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/91922659">4 of 5 stars</a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The end of last week brings us to the end of the read-along of Evermore, the first book in the Immortal series. I must admit that whilst I was not nearly as wowed as I was the first time around, I was once again firmly impressed by the picture painted by Alyson Noel in this book. When I read the book the first time it was almost directly after having finished the Twilight series and I was suffering from a slight sort of depression from having been ripped from a world that I had loved. I was looking for a similar fix and certainly found it with Ever and Damon. Whilst the Immortals world is so similar to many YA stories out there, the storyline still has so many fresh and unique elements which can be enjoyed and admired and it is clear that it was written with care and love.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">This first book in the Immortals series follows Ever, a high school girl who was the stereotypical popular girl until she lost her family in a tragic accident. After having some sort of a near death experience, she is now forced to take much more in of the world around her than she ever imagined. Ever “hears” the thoughts of those around her and can “see” a person’s past and present with a simple touch. Enter Damon... the new guy in school and the one person who Ever cannot read. Damon immediately gravitates to Ever and whilst she feels uncertain initially, Damon is just too much of an enigma to ignore. The rest of the story is a journey of discoveries, with Ever learning why she can read minds and sees her dead sister Riley and realising that her and Damon have known one another in one form or another during many of their past lives. Of course there were some challenges for Ever and Damon to face, particularly the wicked Drina, who has also been with Ever most of her lives, bringing them to a tragic end just as it seems a life was working out beatifully. The ending is not a cliff hanger by any means but many questions are left unresolved... a perfect beginning to a story which is clearly going to bring many more surprises.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Reading Evermore again I realised that there were so many more nuances that I had missed the first time around, specifically the mysticism which is ever present in the world of Ever and Damon. I truly loved the ideas of rebirth which is not so much different from the cornerstones of many popular religions and the concept of visualisation which I have tried myself once or twice. Whilst the story of Ever and Damon is in no way unique, I did feel that Noel brought some interesting elements into the mix which made the story of Ever and Damon hauntingly compelling. The characters are realistic and the secondary characters specifically became good friends of mine. Miles’ realistic approach and openminded approach to everything is in my view a perfect balance to Riley’s sarcasm and Haven’s drama. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I though the writing was solid and flowed beautifully from page to page. Whilst intellectually I would have loved to have experienced more challenges, I think the book is just perfect considering the audience for which it was written. It leaves you with just that right bit of nostalgia and endearment for how you experienced your first loves and the whirlwinds of emotion it brought with it. I read many positive and negative reviews when I read Evermore the first time and whilst I understand the view of those very critical of the book, I truly believe it is an enjoyable read which if one considers that it was written for a much younger audience, certainly should enjoy a primary position on any young adult’s bookshelf. I will certainly take the time to read it again in future.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I would love to read some of your thoughts and comments on Evermore as we move along to the next book in the series, Blue Moon, which I shall be reading for the next two weeks. I hope many more of you will join me in following the series and don’t forget there are still a beautiful box-set up for grabs for those who join me in the read-along and who share their thoughts on the story. Happy reading fellow bookaholics!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
