Top Ten Tuesday - 22 February 2011

Top Ten Tuesdau is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish in which a list topic is chosen every week and completed by participating bloggers.  I take part in Top Ten Tuesday because I think it is a great way to learn the likes and dislikes of your fellow bloggers so that they don't only remain faceless names to you or nameless faces! Hehe!  This week's list is close to my heart as I love movies almost as much as I love books! As I buy mostly the classic movies that I think deserved being immortalised my list really include many "old" movies (or books).

The topic this week is: Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptations:

1.   Pet Sematary by Stephen King

I liked the book but I loved the movie.  That little kid that was hit by the car was totally scary and I still have a copy of this movie in my collection.  When he says: "I already played with mommy daddy, now I wanna play with you..." in that playful mean voice, I just cringe!

2.   Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding

I must confess to being a bit of a Bridget Jones addict.  I watch these movies at least twice a month and can never get enough of it.  I think the casting for these movies was absolutely perfect and all of the actors are great in their roles, even Bridget's mom and dad. Great adaptation!

3.   P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

I admit I have only read bits and pieces of the book but the movie was sooooo great I don't think the book can ever be better in my eyes even if I finish reading it.  I cry every single time I watch this movie!

4. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

I liked the movie but the books were torture for me.  I bought all of them and struggled to finish them and I haven't finished all of them, but they drag and drag on forever.  I am just a sucker for any romantic comedy or Cinderella type movies so this one really was a no-brainer for me to like.

5.  The Green Mile by Stephen King

Well I just about cursed the death penalty for weeks and weeks after watching the movie and I only read one of the books, but the emotion that this movie evokes was amazing and the actors were perfect!  Loved it!

6.  The Neverending Story by Michael Ende

I can still remember watching these movies when I was a child and they will stay with me forever.  The special effects in these movies, in a time when movie related technology was still in its diapers, is really amazing! Now that I think of it I really have to buy the DVD's for my collection.

7.  The Shining by Stephen King

Well well, what makes you think I'm a bit of a King fan.  Well I used to be... When he's books were still good. I'm not really a fan of any of his recent work.  The Shining movie really chilled my blood and it remains a big favourite of mine.

8. Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

This movie always leaves me with that "feel good" feeling I wish I could describe better. Hehe! I loved it and the sequal and my girl friends and I always include it on the list when we decide to hold chick flick movie nights.

9.  Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers

I don't think I have to say anything about this movie, the story or the book.  It is iconic.  We sang the songs in school plays, used the story to create school plays and I still enjoy this movie to this day.  I buy it as a present for any young children who does not have it and I recommend it to anyone who has not watched it.  The only thing I haven't done is to manage to find a bag that is that small but which can hold so many things! *sigh* A lady can but dream.

10.  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

I'm talking about the original movie though, not the remake with Johnny Depp (although I a crazy about him).  This one is also included in my collection and I always pull it out when my little cousins or god children come to visit.  I really enjoyed it and I think every child has to see it! You learn really valuable lessons from it! And let's face it, children today prefer watching the movie to reading the book (regrettably).

Well that's my list this week! Looking forward to your comments!

I love The Devil Wears Prada (Meryl!) and The Green Mile! I haven't been able to read or watch Pet Semetary yet though, because of something horrible my friend told me about it... I liked The Shining book waay better than the film though...

I hesitated about seeing Devil Wears because I really disliked the book, but I was surprised to find the movie was very good.

I haven't read the Devil Wears Prada (or maybe I did a long time ago?) but Meryl Streep was perfect in that movie!

Awesome list! I think I watched more Stephen King movies as a child than as a grown-up, lol. Pet Sematary is one of my favorites also.

Hooray for Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants! I love that one too. And P.S. I Love You was a great adaptation - I actually didn't finish the book because I didn't enjoy it but the movie is now one of my favorites. I'm a new follower!
