Demonglass - Hex Hall - Book 2

Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2)Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Demons, witches, warlocks, werevolves, ghosts...what more can a reader addicted to anything paranormal ask for? Maybe an interesting and unpredictable storyline and a sexy villian/hero? Demonglass certainly delivered on all fronts! I could not have asked for anything more!

SUMMARY

It is life as normal at Hex Hall despite Sophie still raw regret over the death of a few classmates (even the evil ones) and despite her still reeling from discovering that she is not only a demon, but in fact the spawn of a line of demons, at least one of which she knows was evil. To make matters worse, Archer is out there somewhere possibly planning to kill her, whilst she is still secretely pining for him. Sophie soon finds out things are much more complicated than they seem when she is preparing for a trip to visit her father and the Council with her best friend and Cal, who is now also revealed to be her betrothed. Whilst under the watchful eye of the Council she meets with two other demon children, Nick and Daisy, who seem to be harmless at first. Whilst visiting a paranormal club with them she runs into Archer and realises that even though he is her sworn enemy, she cannot forget her feelings for him. Things turn upside down from there when she discovers that those who she believed to be evil may well be on her side and that those she trusted in the end could be the death of her and her friends. Sophie and her father discover some very disturbing secrets of the Council and her father goes through the Removal whilst her friends (and Archer) face death and imprisonment.

WHAT I LIKED

This book has just enough mystery to keep you wondering what happens next and you never seem to get ahead of the story. This keeps it interesting and keeps you reading with enjoyment from first page to the last. I was stricken when Archer turned out to be a baddy and whilst I knew there had to be more to it, loved the twist in the story that reversed the roles of good and evil so effectively. I enjoyed the interactions between Sophie and her father and it was nice to know that although he comes across as cold and unfeeling, he is nothing more than a husband and father in the end. Sophie to me is a very real character. Strong willed and passionate yet a normal person with fears and insecurities... I love that she cares more for others than she does for herself but yet will fight for what she believes in and cares for. The author definitely stepped up the action in this book and I enjoyed that fact. I also enjoy the style of writing, which whilst not being flawless is simple, uncomplicated and makes for a very enjoyable light read!

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE

At the moment, I can’t honestly think of anything that I particularly disliked about the book and which merits mentioning, but will be happy to discuss any dislikes with others who have read the book and follows the series!

SO WHAT’S THE VERDICT?

A very sucessful and good read which I enjoyed as much as I did the first instalment and which I must give a solid thumb up! Definitely worth spending money on!

WHAT’S NEXT

I am not aware thereof that the cover, name or release date of the third instalment to the Hex Hall series has become public knowledge as yet, but I know we will have to wait until 2012! Watch this space for further news!
